Jewish Studies Program
.
Our school’s Jewish studies curriculum fosters fluency and competency in Bible, Rabbinics and the Hebrew language. FJA’s skills-based Bible curriculum gives students the tools necessary to read independently the Hebrew Bible and traditional medieval Jewish commentaries. Students entering with limited Hebrew background, or who have difficulty with language skills, are offered more theme-based options each year.
The Rabbinics program is based on classical sources such as Tanach, Talmud, and Midrash. Students read the works of classical and contemporary scholars such as Rashi, Maimonides, and Luzzato as well as those of contemporary scholars -- Joseph Soloveitchik, Abraham Joshua Heschel and Judith Hauptman and others.
Modern Hebrew is a vital tool used to study the history, culture and tradition of the Jewish people. FJA’s Hebrew language program is designed to advance every student’s language proficiency skills. Within all levels, study incorporates literature, grammar, conversational Hebrew and excerpts from current Israeli publications. Additional Jewish Studies courses include Jewish History and Literature, Israel Advocacy, Denomination Differences and Holocaust history and Literature.
