The Frankel Jewish Academy's Performing and Visual Arts Department ensures each student a trusting environment in which artistic and creative exploration is encouraged and nurtured. We actively prepare students to become supporters and participants in the arts, while building confidence in their own creative expression.
Ten years since FJA took to the stage our Performing Arts department provides experience in five areas: drama, music, dance, film and visual arts. Each subject is structured to be a sequential, developmentally appropriate and skill-based arts experience. With a top notch musical director, a vocal director, choreographer as well as a costumer and set builder, FJA's Performing Arts program offers students an incomparable theater experience. FJA's theater productions give students the confidence to take the risk of performing successfully before an audience. This confidence translates into other areas of their lives, within school and without. Through the arts experience, students explore the world, both individually and collaboratively and grow to recognize their own creative potential.
At FJA we offer introductory and advanced classes in painting and drawing, ceramics, and functional art. Our ninth grade art literacy class integrates academic and hands-on learning of the basic design elements of art including; line, space, form, value, texture, and color. This required introductory class provides students with a basic understanding and the vocabulary for appreciating and evaluating works of art and how to include these principles into their own work. An overview of both 2-D and 3-D art, architecture and art history are also covered, as is a brief overview of art careers. Students will have several opportunities to display and enter their work into Fine Arts Competitions. As schedules permit, field trips to the Detroit Institute of Art are part of the art curriculum.
At a time when many schools are cutting their arts budget, the Frankel Jewish Academy is expanding its offerings each year.
Sincerely, Mitch Master |
