Q: Did graduation requirements in Mathematics change for some students?
A: No. Current 9th graders (class of 2011) and each subsequent class (class of 2012, 2013…) are required to take 4.0 credits of Mathematics per the State of Michigan; this was clearly stated to incoming students during the admissions process.
Q: Who only needs to take 3.0 credits of Mathematics to graduate?
A: Current 10th, 11th, and 12th graders (classes of 2010, 2009 and 2008) only need 3.0 credits of Mathematics to graduate. However, most students elect to take 4.0 credits.
Q: Did any other graduation requirement change?
A: Yes, in Social Studies. Current 9th graders (class of 2011) and each subsequent class are now required to take 1.0 credit AP U.S. Government, OR 0.5 credit U.S. Government, AND 0.5 credit Economics (new!). However, students do not take these classes until their Junior or Senior year.
Q: Do current 10th and 11th grade students need to take Economics?
A: No, only current 9th graders (class of 2011). Current 10th and 11th graders are required to take either 1.0 credit AP U.S. Government, OR 0.5 credit U.S. Government. Students can take either Government class in their Junior or Senior year. These students (classes of 2010 and 2009) can now take Economics as an elective during their Junior or Senior year.
Q: What AP classes are offered during the 2008-2009 school year?
A: English Language, Biology, U.S. History, Physics C, Calculus AB and Calculus BC
Q: What AP classes are offered during the 2009-2010 school year?
A: English Literature, Chemistry, U.S. Government, Physics C, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC
Q: What AP classes are offered during the 2010-2011 school year?
A: English Language, Biology, U.S. History, Physics C, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC
Q: How will a student know if they have been approved to take an Honors or AP class?
A: On March 31st each student will be given an updated course selection sheet that lists all courses (Regular, Honors and AP) that each student has been “pre-approved” for.
Q: If a student was pre-approved for an Honors or AP course, are they required to take it?
A: No. The courses on the pre-approved lists are suggestions, not requirements.
Q: What can a student do if they want to take an Honors or AP class, but they have not been pre-approved?
A: Any student can talk to the Department Head (for the course in question) about the possibility of moving up to an Honors class. Any student can talk to the current AP teacher about the possibility of moving up to an AP level class.
Q: Is every student required to take a full year of Jewish History as a Junior or a Senior?
A: Yes. Most students, Junior or Senior year, replace either one year of Bible OR one year of Rabbinics with one year of Jewish History. Any upperclassman can take Jewish History in addition to Bible and Rabbinics. The end result for Graduation is either:
