GPA:
An additional .5 grade point is given for each AP and .25 for
each honors course.
Grade points are adjusted for pluses and minuses. One GPA is
computed as a composite of General and Jewish Studies
courses.
(1) Athletics: Each student is required to take two semesters of
physical education or its equivalent. Participation in an
interscholastic sport meets the athletics requirement. Students
interested in participating in a non-Academy athletics offering
to fulfill this requirement must apply for a Waiver Request
from the Director of Athletics. Students must participate in the
Arts and Athletic block each semester even if they may have
fulfilled the arts and athletics minimum requirements.
(2) Performing or Visual Arts: Each student is required to take
two semesters of a fine or performing art or its equivalent.
Participation in the school’s drama or musical fulfills this
requirement. Students interested in using a non-Academy arts
offering to fulfill this requirement must apply for a Waiver
Request from the Performing and Visual Arts Department.
Students must participate in the Arts and Athletics block each
semester even if they may have fulfilled the arts and athletics
minimum requirements.
(3) Technology: All graduating students will have technology
skills that meet or exceed the National Educational Technology
Standards set by the International Society for Technology in
Education. This is accomplished throughout their four-year
curriculum at the Frankel Jewish Academy. A technology
assessment is given during the 11th grade to ensure skills are
gained in the following applications: spreadsheets, word
processing, presentation software, online research and source
citation, and databases.
(4) Community Service/Tikkun Olam: Students are required to
participate in ten hours of community service, ten contact
experiences with one’s synagogue, and all school-wide
community service days.
