Students Get Creative With Math
Last semester, Mrs. Chadwick’s Algebra II classes demonstrated their knowledge of polynomial functions by creating a picture or scene that incorporates the five functions that they had been studying.
The first step was to create the picture using DESMOS (an online graphing program) while using only graphs for lines, parabolas, cubics, absolute value, and square roots.Â
After creating their designs, the students wrote the equations for their functions, identifying their transformations from their parent functions, while identifying key characteristics.
This activity required students to utilize technology in order to create their designs in the FJA Genesis Lab.
Mrs. Chadwick notes “As their teacher, I am overwhelmingly impressed with my student’s effort & enthusiasm that they have made.” Thank you to Mr. Rogers and Mrs. Petrucci for assisting with this project.
